Fresh from its nine-week popup run at UNESCO Heritage Site Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England, Shakespeare’s Rose Theater’s production of two of William Shakespeare’s most beloved plays Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream comes to Manila.
Shakespeare’s Rose Theater, put together by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, headquartered in London but with a Manila office, is a replication of the Bard’s immortal works as they were performed at the height of his career as a playwright in the late 16centuries, but prompted only by the original text, the productions are designed to resonate with a modern audience.
Predating the more popular Globe in London, the equally iconic Rose was a pop up, traveling theater that toured Shakespeare’s tragedies and comedies during his early years as a playwright. Now, thanks to Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, the stage has made a comeback, touring around England. And it’s set to visit the Philippines soon for a five-day run, featuring the complete British cast, at the Theater at Solaire, from Sept. 17 to 22.
