A severed head discovered in Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City has been identified through forensic examination as that of missing caregiver Pilar Basilio, 48. Basilio, also known as Katha Saavedra, was reported missing after failing to contact her son on July 4, 2026. Her headless body was later found near the site of the initial discovery. Police are investigating the circumstances of her death.
Residents of Dawis Road, Barangay Cansojong in Talisay City were shocked when they discovered a severed human head around 11:50 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The Talisay City Police Station first received a call from a concerned citizen about the grisly find. Investigators quickly responded under the command of their chief, Police Lieutenant Colonel Homobuno Sayon, to verify the report. According to initial information, an e-bike driver known only by the alias "RJ" spotted the head while collecting recyclable garbage. As RJ was gathering items to sell, he came across the severed head mixed with the trash.
He immediately reported it to the police, who then coordinated with the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team to retrieve the head for forensic examination. Later that same day at around 8:30 PM, Kye Basilio Tupas, from Zamboanga City, personally went to the Talisay police station with his sister-in-law to file a missing persons report regarding his mother.
The missing mother is identified as Pilar Basilio, also known as Katha Saavedra, 48 years old, who worked as a stay-in caregiver for Carmencita Rojas Abarquez in Vergara Village, Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City. According to Kye, his mother last sent him a message on July 4. He noted that this was unusual because she typically messaged him every day.
When they visited the employer's house in Vergara Village on July 8 to inquire, they were told that his mother had been missing for two days and had left without notice. The employer also mentioned that they had already reported the matter to the police. Concerned after neighbors reported finding a human head in Cansojong, the family quickly checked the police station.
To verify if the severed head belonged to Pilar, family members submitted buccal swabs to the PNP Forensic Unit 7 for DNA testing. A few hours after the head was discovered, authorities also found a headless body, already decomposing, just a few meters away from the location where the head was found. The body was also recovered for examination
