Officers with the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture have charged several people for breaches of the Wild Life and Off-Road Vehicles Acts. ContributedST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Provincial resource enforcement officers have charged several people for violations of the Off-Road Vehicle and Wild Life Acts following recent investigations in the Bay du Nord Wilderness Reserve area.
On Sept. 17, officers from the Clarenville and St. John’s detachments conducted air and land patrols in response to reports of illegal activity in and around the Bay du Nord Wilderness Reserve. Resulting from the investigation, officers detained an individual for operating an off-road vehicle in the reserve and for operating an off-road vehicle out of an approved area.Other patrols near the reserve resulted in officers identifying a number of licence and firearm violations under the Wild Life Act and further Off-Road Vehicle Act violations.
Infractions included transporting a loaded firearm on a vehicle, not having a licence or Outdoor Identification Card, operating an off-road vehicle out of an approved area, no entry permit for a wilderness reserve and operation of an off-road vehicle within a reserve.The public can report suspected illegal hunting activity or off-road vehicle use by calling
