Warsaw, N.Y. — An inmate at Attica Correctional Facility is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of attempting to rape a prison employee.

A judge in a bench trial found Emmanuel Jenkins, 38, guilty Tuesday of attempted rape, robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was acquitted of criminal mischief.in the summer of 2015. One day after attempting to flee the courtroom during his trial in March 2016, Jenkins pleaded guilty to predatory sexual assault, aggravated sexual abuse, rape and criminal sexual act.
His new conviction carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Acting Wyoming County District Attorney Vincent Hemming said he will recommend the maximum sentence. Given the facts of this case, and Defendant’s criminal history as a serial rapist, he should never be allowed out of prison.
