September head count shows slight reduction in homelessness yyc
The Calgary Homeless Foundation’s 2022 point-in-time count, carried out on a Tuesday evening last September, tallied 2,782 Calgarians experiencing homelessness. The count represents the first new data from a co-ordinated point-in-time count in Calgary since 2018; the tally is normally conducted every other year, but was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Article content It’s an imperfect data point, Jones said, since it only tells the story of one night and can miss some people, including those cycling in and out of homelessness. But she said the count does show trends and give organizations and governments valuable information on how to allocate money, and what programs to target.Article content
