David Morrison, from July 2021 to January 2022 acting national security and intelligence advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, told a parliamentary committee Tuesday that a July 2021 CSIS report on foreign interference in Canadian elections is “widely misunderstood.” The Conservative opposition has been hammering away at the Trudeau government, suggesting it ignored Beijing’s threats to the election process and to MPs targeted by the Chinese state for their defence of China’s Muslim Uyghur minority.

The procedure and House affairs committee is hearing witnesses following a question of privilege raised by Conservative MP Michael Chong over intimidation of Chong and other MPs by Chinese diplomats.
