For most people, your 75th birthday is a celebratory occasion, but for Sen. Patricia Bovey, it meant she was out of a job. Earlier this week, Bovey reached the Red Chamber’s mandatory retirement age and was forced to bid adieu to her fellow senators. After being appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2016, Bovey, an art historian who previously served as the director of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, spent most of her tenure at the Senate advocating for Canada’s arts and cultural industries.
