MANILA - Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Lt.Gen.

Guillermo Eleazar on Monday reminded security forces about the strict implementation of quarantine checks and physical distancing amid a surge of people outside of their homes in Metro Manila.

During an inspection tour with the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, Eleazar noted numerous violations, including the illegal use of quarantine passes good for one person to transport more. Eleazar and the HPG inspected checkpoints along Marcos Highway, EDSA and Katipunan Avenue, as well as two malls in Quezon City. All in all, Eleazar said malls observed physical distancing and limited patrons inside.

He, however, cautioned that if physical distancing cannot be enforced, or if people continue violating quarantine rules, the JTF CV Shield may request a return to a metro-wide lockdown. For his part, PNP HPG Director BGen. Eliseo Cruz said his men will still inspect vehicles and cite those who are carrying unauthorized persons in their vehicles.
