The City of Ottawa announced the move Friday, saying it was necessary to allow for the removal of a crane in the area.

A one-block westbound section of Rideau Street downtown will be closed for approximately 48 hours starting next Friday, the City of Ottawa announced Friday.The closure is required to allow for dismantling of a construction crane that has been in place at 245 Rideau St., the city’s notice said.
