South Sydney’s floundering finals bid has taken another hit with their superstar to miss the potential do-or-die showdown with the Roosters for a brain snap.
Latrell Mitchell will rely on teammates to ensure he hasn’t played his last game of the season with the Rabbitohs after opting to accept a one-match ban for his brain snap against Newcastle.
Mitchell would have risked a two-match suspension if he unsuccessfully fought for a downgrade at the judiciary. But the Rabbitohs’ patchy form has shown no sign of significant improvement, and Mitchell took out his frustration on his former NSW teammate Frizell with a needless elbow to his back with just over a minute left in the game.Referee Grant Atkins had no hesitation in sin-binning Mitchell and the news only got worse on Monday when Mitchell learnt he wouldn’t escape with a fine, which would have been the result of a grade one charge.
“I’ve played plenty of footy with and against Latrell; there’s no hard feelings there,” Frizell said.
