The BBC is reporting that a submarine that takes tourists to the site of the Titanic has gone missing.
The BBC says that the US Coast Guard in Boston has confirmed that an operation is underway to find the submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions. OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush visited the VOCM studios in February to discuss the submersible and what goes into an expedition to the bottom of the ocean.Premier Andrew Furey is offering his hope that the US Coast Guard successfully locates the sub and those on board very soon.
CBS News is reporting that OceanGate has issued a statement saying that its entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families.Thinking of all those affected, as we hope the U.S. Coast Guard successfully locates the sub and those on it very soon. Newfoundland and Labrador has a long-standing connection with the wreck of the Titanic, with tourists departing our harbour to visit the site off our shores.
