Search for suspect underway following shooting in Batchawana Bay

Residents are asked to avoid the area at this time

A search is underway for an adult male in Batchawana Bay who shot an individual on Superior Street around 4:30 a.m. this morning.

Sgt. Mario Posteraro from the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police tells SooToday the suspect, who is from Batchawana Bay, was last seen fleeing into the bush in that area. Twenty-five officers with the OPP are involved in the search. A K9 unit has been deployed, and a helicopter from Elliot Lake is on its way to assist with the search.The suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other.
