The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) showcased its accomplishments and future initiatives at the 31st Philippine Technical Administrative Committee meeting.

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/ Aquaculture Department ( SEAFDEC /AQD) presented its accomplishments during the 31st Philippine Technical Administrative Committee meeting in Quezon City. The organization also talked about its partnership and ongoing projects with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources ( BFAR ), and the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute ( NFRDI ).

During the meeting, SEAFDEC/AQD chief Dan Baliao announced they partnered with BFAR in establishing 26 hatcheries across the country and that 12 of these hatcheries have already reached completion. Baliao also reported several aquaculture facilities are currently being constructed within the research center's 40-hectare complex in Iloilo. The facilities will be used for research and demonstration of SEAFDEC/AQD's hatchery technologies for tiger shrimp, pompano and milkfish, which it considers to be priority commodities. Some of these projects are the aquaculture feed mill plant which they established with BFAR Region 6 (Western Visayas), a Bali sardine (tamban) hatchery project with the NFRDI, as well as crayfish, mangrove crab and whiteleg shrimp hatcheries. The SEAFDEC/AQD division heads talked about the organization's activities, such as administrative initiatives, information dissemination, training, technology verification and extension, as well as their departmental and regional programs, some of which are funded by the Japanese Trust Fund. To conclude the meeting, Baliao revealed their office's plans for 2025 and presented their proposed budget for 2026, saying that they would continue to support aquaculture in the Philippines through their technology transfer and extension programs
