Crowds of protesters have marched on Parliament House on Saturday, shutting down streets around the capital and putting the territory's police on high alert, as they monitor the crowd with drones and helicopters.

He said the federal government had only ever supported mandates for aged care and disability workers, as well as health workers in high-risk situations.

The protesters appear to be a mix of anti-vaccine activists, conspiracy theorists and people from the sovereign citizen movement. "Our hospitals are doing their best, but they are in logjam and it's costing lives," AMA emergency medicine representative Dr Sarah Whitelaw said.The ACT government announced on Saturday it will give suicide prevention charity Lifeline $25,000 after the organisation was forced to shut down its bookfair due to the protests.
