At the beginning of the year Joseph Pouniu was looking forward to finishing up his schooling and beginning a promising NRL career but a devastating injury has flipped his life upside down.
As a 16-year-old Joseph was signed to the Gold Coast Titans and was a hugely promising prospect for the game before he laced up his boots for an under 17s trial game in January.
Joseph's mother said the accident has been tough on the family, as they encounter day-to-day challenges just to move him around safely. But now with support from Hyundai and Sky News Australia the family has been gifted a large special purpose SUV. Joseph’s social life has also been turned upside down yet his school just north of Brisbane, St Eugene College, has been united in support with his peers insisting he’s been inspirational throughout the ordeal.
Seven months on from the tragic spinal injury the school has rallied behind their mate on his rehabilitation journey to regain some of his mobility.
