The upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry starring Vice Ganda, 'And The Breadwinner Is...', faces an uphill battle due to a recent scandal involving its co-stars, Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings. The controversy surrounding their alleged infidelity has led to their exclusion from promotional events and even their names being removed from the movie poster, jeopardizing the film's box office performance.
ALL 10 official entries to the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival open tomorrow, Christmas' Day. This marks the second year that the festival committee has selected 10 out of more than 30 or so hopefuls — when it used to be just eight.Of the 10, I must express alarm for Star Cinema and IdeaFirst's entry 'And The Breadwinner Is...
'It's not about its lead star Vice Ganda offering a non-comedy this time around but rather about her co-stars Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings who got involved in a recent scandal — a story about betrayal being a common plot in many a teleserye.Apparently, the two production companies were just as anxious that Maris and Anthony got 'uninvited' to the mediacon — the reason for which was self-explanatory.Had the couple showed up, the Q&A portion would have been focused on them — not on the merits of the film to think it's Jun Lana-helmed, to say the least. Not only were the alleged 'guilty lovers' deliberately snubbed at the event, they were also stricken off the movie poster. Between the two, it's Maris who bears the heavier brunt. As a consequence, she lost two product endorsements (and heaven knows what else is coming). But even more painfully, Maris lost the public admiration she had worked so hard for to create a squeaky clean image. If it's any consolation, Maris won her ex-boyfriend Rico Blanco's non-judgmental stance (or is it more of his cavalier attitude?) for keeping his mouth shut even if he had a mouthful to say. What bothers me though is the fate that awaits the Vice Ganda starrer at the tills. It would utterly be unfair for the TV host-comedienne and the men and women behind the film if in case it bombs at the box office. Hopefully not.Because if it likely does, this is going to be Vice Ganda's second defeat in the MMFF (where her entry many years ago miserably failed to make it as the highest-grossing
