A new project in the west of Ireland to save the endangered freshwater pearl mussels might just prove an unlikely demonstration of how the state could avoid a backlash on moves to cut carbon emissions from land use, writes obraonain.
The plight of the freshwater pearl mussel is not among the key drivers of the government’s contentious land use review. But the species does serve as an illustration of why plans are being drawn up to reduce carbon emissions from Ireland’s 6.9 million hectare land mass.
