Sarawak to hold grand 60th anniversary celebrations FMTNews
State minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the premier of Sarawak, Abang Johari Openg, would join a Sarawak Merdeka Convoy as part of the celebrations.
Nine events have been scheduled for the celebrations, from May to July, said the state minister of tourism, creative industry and performing arts, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah today. July 22 has been celebrated as Sarawak Independence Day since 2016, to mark the day in 1963 that the state gained self-government before becoming an independent state and part of the Malaysian federation in September that year.
A digital exhibition on Sarawak’s 60 Years will be held in all divisions and tour with the travelling convoy starting from May 28 to July 22, while thanksgiving ceremonies will be conducted at mosques and houses of worship throughout the state on July 21.
