KOTA KINABALU: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) became the first local authority in Sabah to receive an anti-bribery certification.
The council was accorded the ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System recognition by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health .
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who is also Sabah’s Local Government and Housing Minister, commended the MPS team for meeting the state government’s aspirations. The certification, he said, increased the level of confidence and trust among stakeholders in dealing with the council.
“This certification is meaningful and relevant in the jurisdiction of local councils because it plays a role not only in preventing, detecting and acting on cases of corruption, but also in helping local councils improve the level of risk management related to corrupt practices,” he added.
