City’s police department prohibited from using the 17 robots in its arsenal for lethal force after board of supervisors vote
and use them to kill people “when risk of loss of life to members of the public or officers is imminent and outweighs any other force option available to SFPD”. The board had also added an amendment saying that only high-ranking officers would be allowed to authorize deadly force.
The initial decision to allow “killer robots” was met with widespread criticism from civil rights groups and shone a harsh light on the increasing militarization of US police forces. Supervisors and police officials who had originally supported the use of lethal force had said the robots would kill people only in extraordinary cases, such as suicide bombing or active shooter situations.
Hilary Ronen, one of three supervisors who originally voted against deploying killer robots, said at last week’s meeting: “I’m surprised that we’re here in 2022. We have seen a history of these leading to tragedy and destruction all over the world.” After Tuesday’s reversal, she tweeted: “Common sense prevailed.”
We just stopped the use of killer robots robots in SF. Complete reversal from last week. Common sense prevailed.

FBI ‘pre-bunked’ Hunter Biden laptop story by ‘seeding’ lie to big tech: Miranda DevineNew York Post journalist Miranda Devine has revealed how the FBI “pre-bunked” the Hunter Biden laptop story with big tech while knowing the laptop wasn’t hacked. Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently revealed details behind the social media company’s controversial decision to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story in the lead-up to the 2020 US Presidential election. “They (the FBI) were having weekly meetings in San Francisco with executives from Twitter and Facebook,” Ms Devine told Sky News host Paul Murray. “They were seeding this lie that there was going to be a hack and leak operation run by the Russians that was going to provide damaging material about what was rumoured to be Hunter Biden.” She said Twitter and Facebook censored the story within hours of it going live on their website. “The FBI is the federal government, and it is illegal for them to coerce a private company like Twitter or Facebook to violate the First Amendment,” Ms Devine added.
