PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal here has freed clerk Sam Ke Ting from her conviction and sentence in a"basikal lajak" incident six years ago.
In a unanimous decision, a three-judge panel chaired by Justice Hadhariah Syed Ismail allowed Sam's appeal on the grounds that the charge was defective."On this grounds alone, the appeal is allowed," she said here on Tuesday.On April 13, 2022, the Johor Bahru High Court sentenced Sam to six years’ jail and a fine of RM6,000 for reckless driving which resulted in the deaths of eight teenagers on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, Johor Baru, at 3.20am on Feb 18, 2017.
High Court judge Justice Abu Bakar Katar also denied her a stay of execution after finding her guilty.
