Halifax Water has lifted a safety advisory after untreated and unscreened sewage entered the Northwest Arm. - Eric Wynne / FileHALIFAX, N.S. — Halifax Water has lifted an advisory warning people and pets to stay out of the water in Halifax's Northwest Arm.
The utility issued the advisory on Thursday, Aug. 17, after untreated sewage began flowing into the water. A wastewater system backup caused the issue.Following a successful wastewater system repair, Halifax Water is advising the public that the recommendation that people and pets avoid contact with water in the Northwest Arm is no longer in effect.
