KOTA KINABALU: Sabah health authorities are probing a slew of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases in the interior Tenom district where at least 74 people have come down with abdominal pain and vomiting since Tuesday (Jan 3).
A viral video that surfaced on Facebook on Thursday also claimed that many residents in Tenom were experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting.
This involved patients aged between one and 65, she said, adding all experienced stomachaches and vomiting while only 20% came down with diarrhoea and 16% with fever. She said they were still trying to zero in on what caused the AGE incidents, adding initial investigations found that the patients resided in separate localities.“We took water samples from the Senagang, SRO Kalang and auxiliary Amboi 1 water treatment plants.
“Further tests will be carried out on the water supply at the plants to ascertain whether there is any presence of virus microorganisms,” Dr Rose said.
