Chief Conservator of Forests, Datuk Frederick Kugan, said the Department concurred with the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC) Ministry’s statement on the need to review and verify the findings on the RimbaWatch report.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Datuk Frederick Kugan, said the Department concurred with the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry’s statement on the need to review and verify the findings on the RimbaWatch report. “In line with the Sabah Forest Policy 2018, the State Government is committed to maintaining 50 per cent of the State’s forest cover,” he said.
“The establishment of this forest plantation will reduce the dependence of the local timber industry on the supply of logs from the State’s native forests,” he said. For the context of Sabah, he said, the establishment of forest plantations is not defined as deforestation as it does not convert forest areas to other land use purposes.
