SA road safety shadow minister steps down after losing driver's licence
In a statement, the Member for Chaffey said he made the decision after "recently voluntarily relinquishing his licence" because of recent traffic offences."I have had some recent traffic offences which mean it is now inappropriate for me to continue as Shadow Minister for Road Safety," Mr Whetstone said.
"I apologise to those that I have let down including the South Australian public as well as my colleagues." Mr Whetstone said he had reached the decision to step down after today meeting with Opposition Leader David Speirs, who will assume the portfolio on an interim basis. However, Mr Whetstone said he would remain in shadow cabinet, meaning he would retain his other shadow portfolios – police and community safety, and mental health and suicide prevention.
"Road safety is critical and it's important the opposition has a strong voice in this portfolio," the veteran Liberal MP said.More to come.
