South Australian drivers will face $658 fines for using mobile phones while driving from next month.
The new mobile phone detection cameras have already caught about 1000 drivers per day, prompting traffic lawyers to scrutinise the law for potential loopholes.
According to the regulations, drivers can use their phones hands-free in a cradle, but only to accept or end calls. Using GPS is allowed, but only if the device is securely mounted in a cradle and set up while the vehicle is legally parked.
