Plans to electrify households could put strain on the grid, experts said.
A plan to aid low-income households to electrify their homes could help them save hundreds of dollars a year by extinguishing their gas bills, but experts have warned about the potential strain on the energy grid.
Energy experts cautioned the transition must be accompanied by a significant increase in renewable energy generation. Energy Networks Australia, which represents energy transmission and distribution companies, said the significant expansion of renewable energy generation would then be passed on to the bills of customers.“Regardless of how you heat your house, if its thermal envelope improves, you’ll have lower energy bills and be warmer in winter,” Energy Networks Australia chief executive Andrew Dillon said.Electrification schemes already operating in some states.
