Its opinion pages have become gloomier and more trenchant in the past few years, particularly since the Downing Street defenestration of the paper’s beloved Brexiteer and former star columnist, Boris Johnson. One of the interested bidders is hedge fund millionaire Paul Marshall, a Conservative Party donor who has bankrolled the start-up iconoclast broadcaster GB News. The TV station’s star presenter is Brexiteer-in-chief Nigel Farage, but its roster of hosts also includes serving MPs such as former cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg and outspoken Conservative Party deputy chairman Lee Anderson.
