PETALING JAYA: The independent players’ biggest challenge is recovering from injuries without the aid of proper treatment and rehabilitation programmes, and this can lead to a premature end of their careers.
However, the Road to Gold programme, has thrown a lifeline for independent shuttlers like mixed doubles player Shevon Lai Jemie.
World No. 10 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon and world No. 7 Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing are the mixed pairs who have been named in RTG while the others who got the nod are men’s singles world No. 4 Lee Zii Jia and men’s doubles world No. 8 Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi. “We would love to have the services provided by NSI and the National Sports Council especially during tournaments. Their support is very crucial when it comes to injuries, treatment and rehab,” said Shevon.
