Melbourne Matildas fans hoping to watch the final two Women’s World Cup matches at Federation Square may see them cancelled due to behaviour from a group of “idiot” young men.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp blasted rowdy fans for setting off flares and breaking down barricades during Wednesday night’s semi-final between the Matildas and England.

Mayor Capp revealed that the reckless behaviour could have jeopardised future screenings for excited soccer fans. “If we could find those idiots and make sure they don't attend then Fed Square would be going off again. But unfortunately, sometimes the few ruin it for the rest.”
