A man is charged second-degree murder after an 80-year-old man died following a fire inside a Brampton residential unit.
The blaze swept through a basement unit on July 2 at Pennyroyal Crescent shortly after 1:30 p.m. A “large presence of emergency crews” were dispatched to the residence, where a senior man was located without vital signs, First responders were able to revive the man’s pulse at the fire scene before rushing him to a trauma centre in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.was the third residential fire in Brampton since June 30Police have now charged the 26-year-old roommate of the victim in the July 2 blaze. The man is facing counts of second-degree murder, arson and endangering life. It is unclear if the suspect was on the scene at the time of the fire.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing to anyone with information to contact homicide investigators at 905-453-2121 extension 3205. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has also been called in to investigate.
