Cristiano Ronaldo is the most-capped player in Portuguese football history, but the number seven shirt which he made his own has been worn by another player this week
Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo is set for what could be his last ever international tournament this summer, but Roberto Martinez 's squad showed on Thursday that there's life beyond the veteran.
The Al-Nassr frontman sat out Thursday's friendly with Sweden, though. He was given a rest by Martinez, but is expected to returrn on Tuesday as the Selecao take on Slovenia. Ever since making the number seven shirt his own in 2007, Ronaldo has rarely relinquished it. Against Sweden, though, there was a chance for Bruma to claim the iconic number.
Bruma, who came on at half time against Sweden, scored the fourth of Portugal's five goals in a 5-2 victory. Rafael Leao, Matheus Nunes, Bruno Fernandes and Goncalo Ramos were the others on target, with Viktor Gyokeres and Gustaf Nilsson on target for the Swedes,"A coach likes to have headaches, but the March training camp is not the time for that," manager Martinez said after his team's victory. "This is the time to gather information and create team spirit.
