The decision to lift the threshold for testing some DNA samples in more detail has resulted in potentially thousands of samples needing to be retested.
Rogue Queensland Health scientists ignored colleagues’ advice and influenced senior police so they would agree to changes in DNA testing threshold limits to save time and money.
In January 2018, a proposal to department heads in the state-run Forensic and Scientific Services lab suggested lifting the threshold for automatically testing some DNA samples in more detail. Based on feedback in early 2018, it was clear the individual department heads would not support the proposal.
