National Anti-Corruption Commission boss Paul Brereton said 44 referrals have already been received by the new watchdog.

“We will assess all the matters of which we are aware, to decide whether they should be investigated,” he said. Public servants and government contractors could be investigated by the commission, which can initiate its own inquiries or act on public referrals.
