Rio Tinto today agreed to pay $15 million USD to settle a seven-year bribery scandal regarding the undeveloped Simandou iron ore deposit in Guinea, one of the most valuable in the world.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission found that in 2011, Rio hired former French
investment banker Francois de Combret as its agent as it sought to hold its mining rights in Guinea.
