The tax agency wants to ensure more people who are eligible for tax\u002Dbased assistance get the money they\u0027re entitled to.
In budget documents published on Tuesday, the finance department said Revenue Quebec will set up a pilot project to offer pre-filled tax returns to a “targeted clientele” consisting mainly of people who are “vulnerable” according to information the agency has in its records.
A third of those who file taxes in Quebec declare total revenue under $25,000 a year, and more than 80 per cent of those get a tax refund when they file. But only if they file.The pilot project is targeted at those who don’t file tax returns but have a “simple tax profile” that can be filled in automatically with information Revenue Quebec already receives from employers, banks and other sources.
