New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesperson Vaughan Mackereth said a body recovered from a collapsed house in Muriwai is that of firefighter Dave van Zwanenberg, who was previously reported as missing. Another firefighter remains in hospital in a critical condition."The deep impact this loss has had on the community and we appreciate the support given to our brigade especially as the community is still dealing with the impacts of the cyclone.
"Land conditions are quite fluid," Auckland Emergency Management deputy controller Rachel Kelleher said. While the worst of the storm has passed, emergency services are advising residents to be aware of the persistent risks while flood conditions recede.
