Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed the news today.
She tweeted more than 190 Australians and their families have managed to leave Sudan, where heavy fighting has been raging for three weeks.Australian government officials greeted evacuees from Sudan after an RAAF rescue mission to the war-torn country. "We are in contact with registered Australians on further departure options from Port Sudan," Wong said.The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the situation in the war-torn nation remained dangerous.READ MORE:Fighting in Sudan erupted on April 15 between the army and a rival paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces.
Their power struggle has put millions of Sudanese in the line of gun battles, artillery bombardments and airstrikes.At least 436 civilians have been killed and more than 1,200 injured since the fighting began.
