Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson the call on the back of the Jan 6 Capitol attack in 2021.
But a federal probe into the Jan 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol and an investigation in Georgia into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results were based on “serious allegations” and worthy of criminal scrutiny, he said. “We need a leader in our country that can bring out the best of America and not appeal to our worst instincts,” he said.
Hutchinson, a former federal prosecutor, said he would not have pursued the Manhattan case, believing it to be based on a “unique legal theory” applied to a payment that only came under scrutiny because of its proximity to the 2016 campaign.
