Xiaomi has quietly unveiled two new budget smartphones, the Redmi A2 and A2 Plus running on Android 12 (Go Edition).
These phones are listed on Xiaomi’s global website, but oddly enough, there is no pricing or availability date yet, but they will undoubtedly be in an affordable price range given that theThe Redmi A2 and A2 Plus both sport a 6.52-inch 720p display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. In fact, the two devices are the exact same phone with the exception being that the A2 Plus comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back — they even come in the same colour options of blue, green, and black.
The camera setup for the Redmi A2 and A2 Plus is very basic, with the rear featuring an 8MP main camera along with a QVGA auxiliary lens, while the front houses a 5MP selfie shooter. As for connectivity, the phones support 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio, and only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi — they are also equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack.Powering the entry-level devices is a 5,000mAh battery that Xiaomi claims can last up to 19 hours of video playback.
As previously mentioned, Redmi has still not revealed the pricing or availability of the Redmi A2 and A2 Plus. There is also no word yet on whether they will be coming to the Malaysian market but upon checking, both budget phones are already listed in SIRIM’s database, meaning that a local launch is imminent.
