After another season marred by a leg injury, the veteran pass catcher is anxious to show off his skills.
He says there are no hard feelings toward the Riders or the team’s fan base.
The Redblacks signed Evans, who also had NFL stints with Jacksonville, New England and Dallas, to add veteran spark to their receiving corps. He says he’s taking nothing for granted. Evans arrived in Ottawa before training camp to get extra work with Redblacks quarterbacks. While it’s taking a while for the offence to find its legs, Evans says it’s starting to take shape.
Shaq Evans had 1,334 receiving yards with Saskatchewan in 2019, but just 487 yards in 10 games with Ottawa in 2022.Asked about Evans, head coach Bob Dyce said: “You’re talking about a receiver who’s been in the league and has shown what he can do, but, no matter what he’s doing, he’s working to an utmost level. He leads by example. At his size, he’s a physical player and that’s why he’s excelled in the special-teams drills.
