DEOpinion 'We are taking it too easy. We allow non-Sabahans to trample all over us, siphon off our wealth. In many cases, Sabahans are even the abettors/colluders to this act of betrayal.' - Datuk John Lo
biggest obstacle to economic progress is excessive meekness, a serious lack of aggressiveness in defending our constitutional economic rights, a blatant lack of ambition to build up our economy in the past. “Tiada Apa” is still very pervasive in the private sector, in government and among many politicians.
Sabah cannot run away from these and many other basic requirements for economic progress. The old model of always “cry-baby” to the federal government and non-Sabahans has failed badly. In fact, this model has thrown us back several decades in comparison to other states. We have kissed hands of the federal leaders for years, bow our heads low, subservient and have been waiting for crumbs to fall. Result? From top No. 2 to bottom No. 2, only better than Perlis. Even Kelantan is 1 above than us.How can we accept this intolerable situation? Who is to blame? We Sabahans must accept responsibility. Many past and present Sabahan leaders should be shameful for allowing Sabah to be degraded down to this despicable, disgraceful situation.
Notwithstanding this lack of sensitivity on the part of the Federal Government, Sabah should lobby mightily hard for Tsinghua University, which is the No. 1 university in China to come to Sabah. After his 2 years of investment friendly policies Sabah is experiencing a total inflow of about RM30 billions of which RM11.5 billion investment is being implemented. Sabah is on an unparalleled investment renascence. YB Ginger is correct, Sabah must be able to supply qualified Sabahan human capital urgently.
