Defence Minister Richard Marles says the restructuring of the Australian army is “really important”. Hundreds of Australian Defence Force personnel will be relocated from Adelaide to north Queensland in a move to strengthen Australia’s northern bases. The restructuring comes in the wake of the Defence Strategic Review and the government’s response to it. “One of the tenants of the Defence Strategic Review was to have a focused Defence Force around maintaining the peace and security of the region in which we live,” he told Sky News Australia. “Having a defence force which was capable of projection. “That is the philosophies which have underpinned the restructure that we’ve announced today.”
