Victorian commuters are set for a “simpler” public transport system after outdated Myki provider loses contract.

The $100-million-a year myki - which forced Victorians to “tap on” with a physical plastic card - contract with Japan’s NTT Data expired in November.

Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll announced the exciting change to myki. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Andrew Henshaw Mr Carroll revealed that passengers would eventually be able to touch on using bank cards, a feature available in London since 2012 and in Sydney since 2018. Improvements to the card include a single trip option for visitors and low fare charges based on travel patterns instead of having to buy discounted weekly and monthly passed in advance.
