The Queens District RCMP says no charges have been laid as the investigation continues into the death Oct. 2 of a 15-year-old Abegweit First Nation teenager.

“We had information that there were youth down at the Wharf Road and that a bonfire had been set, and police made a patrol down there just to disperse the youth from the area. “It wasn’t a chaotic scene. Most of the youth were very co-operative and left voluntarily. A couple had to be sternly spoken to because they were intoxicated, but we got those people moving.’’ The RCMP sergeant said in the process of speaking to one person, two people in a pickup truck about 20 feet away shouted that they needed help right away.The driver and the passenger remained at the scene while police called an ambulance and administered first aid to Chailo. However, the teenager died at the scene from her injuries.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
