Ravn Alaska is suspending flights to several key Aleutian communities starting later this month, officials confirmed with Alaska’s News Source on Wednesday.

It’s a potential blow to smaller communities served by the airline that also worry it could mean higher airline prices from other carriers and fewer flights into and out of the area. The company says the changes are part of an effort to “optimize operations and ensure long-term sustainability and growth.”
After that, according to the company website, Ravn will only be flying to Anchorage, Homer, St Mary’s, St. Paul Island, and Valdez.
