Three whale sharks of about 5 metres (16 feet) each swam into Gaya Island waters near Bungaraya Island Resort on Friday, followed by four arrivals on Sat morning, igniting a flurry of excitement among tourists from Europe, Australia, Korea and West M'sia.
“I have been diving for over 40 years now, this is the first time I heard three in one day , followed by four on Saturday…this is extraordinary! “ exclaimed veteran diving guru Clement Lee. “I attribute this record number to the abundance of krills which are still around in the bay although I don’t know why because krills normally boom in water temperatures between 24 and 26C, but the water temperature now is 18/29C,” he said.
