Pascal Siakam is an NBA all-star after all. The Toronto Raptors star was announced as one of three injury replacements along with Kings guard De’Aaron Fox and Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards.
Asked earlier this week whether he’d accept being an injury replacement for the NBA All-Star Game Feb. 19 in Salt Lake City, Siakam suggested he’d be looking more forward to a warm weather vacation.
“That’s definitely not something I’m thinking about,” he said of being a late addition. “I think all-star is kind of gone in my head now.” But commissioner Adam Silver had other thoughts and Siakam has now been chosen to make the second all-star appearance of his career. Siakam, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards and De’Aaron Fox of Sacramento were named Friday as injury replacements for Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Phoenix’s Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans.Heading into Friday’s home game against Utah Jazz, Siakam was averaging 25.0 points and 6.2 assists, along with 8.0 rebounds and 37.5 minutes — the most in the NBA — in 46 games this season.
He currently ranks inside the top 20 in both scoring and assists, and is the only player in the Eastern Conference averaging at least 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
