Incoming MBPP mayor Rajendran Anthony being congratulated by Jagdeep Singh Deo at the City Hall in George Town this morning.

“History is being made as he is the first appointed mayor of Indian origin in the country,” he told FMT.Rajendran, 60, has been the MBPP city secretary since Jan 1, 2022. He has served the council for 37 years and was previously head of the engineering department. Rajendran’s career highlights include the implementation of one-way streets in George Town and traffic improvement schemes on Penang’s busiest thoroughfare, Jalan Masjid Negeri – which is popularly known as Green Lane – and its surrounding roads.
