PHNOM PENH: Thirteen pregnant Philippine women accused of illegally acting as surrogate mothers in Cambodia after being recruited online may face prison terms after they give birth, a senior Interior Ministry official said Saturday (Oct 12).

EVER since Star Trek began hitting TV screens in 1966, its focus has been on stories of adventures in space featuring strange new worlds and new civilisations. Its lasting legacy has endured even to this day, with fans young and old eagerly anticipating new episodes of fresh series set in the universe it has created. However, the focus has turned to Earth from time-to-time – and it has often led to much celebration when a particular place becomes an established part of the Star Trek story.

With that said, is it true that Malaysia's Pulau Langkawi has been mentioned on screen in a Star Trek episode? This happened in 2018, in the Season One finale of"Star Trek: Discovery" titled"Will You Take My Hand".To this, Georgiou – played by Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh – replies;"don't be silly, Michael, you knew I grew up in Malaysia".

The answer does not satisfy Burnham as she then pointedly asks Georgiou where in Malaysia as they had travelled there together once, to which she gets a short"Pulau Langkawi" as a response. This was not the first time that Malaysia had been linked to a member of the main cast of a Star Trek series, as Malaysia had been mentioned in an episode of"Star Trek: Enterprise", which ran from Sept 2001 to May 2005.

In"Enterprise", it is mentioned in the 12th episode of the first season of the series,"Silent Enemy" that the parents of the Starship Enterprise's Malcolm Reed lived in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
